Aluminium Fork Vice Jaws
VICE MOUNTED ALLOY FORK CLAMPS DIAM. 35 TO DIAM. 60 mm
These clamps are made from aluminium slightly softer than the outer fork tubes on motorcycles so as not to mark the anodising finish.
They are designed to be bolted to the jaws of 150 mm width vices that have removable jaw plates. They can also be fitted to 125 mm width vices.
To install, carefully ascertain the precise bolt centres on your vice and drill matching holes in jaws at a suitable height for your vice. The original removable jaw plates from the vice can be used as a template for drilling the holes in the alloy jaws. You will need to purchase two longer bolts, matching the diameter and thread pitch of the vice jaw mounting holes.
The clamps can be fitted protruding from the left, or the right of the vice. Just turn them over depending on which end of the bench the vice is mounted on. The blank end of the jaws should ideally be fitted flush with one end of the vice. However, vice shanks vary in width, so you will need to ascertain that the complete diameter of the fork leg will clear the vice shank while the fork is clamped in the centre of the V section of the jaw. At the same time, ensure the new aluminium jaws have as much support as possible behind them.
Do not overtighten this clamp. It is possible to bend the alloy jaw and to distort the alloy fork housing.
Always loosen the top fork nut whilst the fork is still clamped in the yokes.
Final tightening of the top nut should be done after the forks are reassembled in the bike and both yokes tightened to factory torque settings.
